Manaiakalani Film Festial 2014

]Waking up early in the morning and hearing the birds chirping I had clicked and remembered that I was Manaiakalani film festival today. The Manaiakalani film festival is a event where all of different schools around Glen Innes and Panmure area reunite and shows other schools short films that their class plans and put together. The Manaiakalani Film Festival was at the Sylvia Park hoyts cinemas. I rapidly hopped out off my bed towards the bathroom and slipped on my school uniform. In a amount of time left before we headed off we ate a delicious breakfast.

Arriving at school and hearing the 8:30am bell ring and also seeing heaps of people patiently waited for their teacher at the door I knew that they were elevated. After hearing the news from my teacher that we will be leaving school around 11:30 I was slightly sad because I honestly thought that we will be leaving towards Sylvia Park cinemas early and hopefully stayed there throughout the whole day.

Strolling outside of class and seeing 3 unattractive old buses we rapidly rushed towards the middle bus, quickly hunting through crowds of eager students I stumbled across an available seat waiting for a one of friends to come Htawra sat next to me.

As soon as we got their basically all you can see was handful of students from others schools fill up the mall. Entering the cinema it was very packed with a variety of schools in the manaiakalani cluster. After 5 minutes of talking to my friends that were sitting with me it was time for the Manaiakalani film Festival for 2014 to begin. Seeing our class presenters Muamua and Henry I was beyond excited. Our class movie was called the kindness Boomerang is about being kind to one another like lending a helping hand even if their a person you don’t even know. After seeing all sorts of short films from other school I guess my favourite movie would have to be all of them because they were all creative and clever.

Leaving the cinemas and heading towards the unengaging buses to go back to school I was slightly sad because I wanted to watch all the film but unfortunately we couldn’t and because that was going to be my last time watching Manaiakalani Films. I had a really fun time at the cinemas because I got to see my cousins from other school present their class movie and also got to watch films with my friends and class. I had a really awesome time at Manaiakalani Film Festival.

Raeleen Bats that see with their ears : Reading Follow Up.

  1. What kind of sound does a bat use for echolocation? Bats use echolocation for finding food, avoiding obstacles that comes in their way when they are flying in the dark and it even lets them communicate with other bats and echolocation is like echoes in a large, empty room or at the edge of the canyon.
  2. What kind of echo does a bat hear from an object moving away from it? They hear diffrent sounds that one that is still and is either softer or louder. The sound is louder if the object is coming closer and if the sound is softer the object is going away.
  3. What would you miss if you suddenly switched from seeing with your eyes to echolocation? Why? I would miss everything but echolocation is slightly because you can see properly in the dark and if someone is tippy toeing away from me I would know but it is also confusing.
  4. What is the main idea of this reading passage? Write a brief summary in 2 - 3 sentences.
The story is about bats and how they communicate with other bats using echolocation and how they know when a moving object is near by. The main passage of the story is how bats hear other stuff coming from far away and it is also about Ultrasound and Echolocation.
  1. What might cause echolocation to work differently for whales than it does for bats?
That whales are not active at night, and they don't see with ears to see they use their sense to find food.
  1. What does it mean when is says Bats are among a ‘select group of animals’
That bats are also blind like those animals because they all use the senses to find food and stuff.
  1. What is ‘ultrasound’?
A special noise, to do what other animals do with their eyes.

Raeleen Why is the Moon upside Down : Reading Follow Up

After reading the text and the diagrams, what does the information tell us?
That Niko who is living in Japan is seeing something weird about the moon.
Text - What does the text tell us?  Summarise

Ani and Niko known each other since they were in kindergarten, their families lived next to each other and they use to stay at each others houses. When they were growing up they use to camp outside on the deck. Sometimes after school finishes they would always think that they might travel the world. One day Niko’s mum got offered a job in Japan so that meant Niko and Ani will not see each other again. But Ani and Niko will always talk to each other on gmail, Ani was waiting so long for Niko to send a message to him, but Niko finally sent a message about why is the moon upside down?. So Ani said” they will take some pictures of the moon so that they can discover why is Ani seeing the moon upside down. Suddenly their cameras didn’t have very good zooms. So they decided to draw pictures of the moon so they know what's the difference.. So Sam’s dad was a hunter so they wanted to use his binoculars. But the whole thing didn't work well so they waited for the new moon to start. After a few week they set each other their drawings and WOW! they are really good drawers. After comparing the drawing they found out why is the moon upside down?. Because Ani is living in the southern Hemisphere and Niko is living in the Northern Hemisphere. So Ani is seeing the top of the moon and Niko is seeing the bottom of the moon so that is why it was weird to him.

What do the diagrams tell us?

When you are in the northern hemisphere you see the top of the moon, but if you are in the southern hemisphere you see the bottom of the moon. So I think Niko was use to seeing the bottom of the moon so that is why he said it was weird.
