Raeleen Maths Presentation - Week 5 Term 3

Task 1:

a. 3.25 + 2.09 = 5.34
+ 0.09  -0.09
  3.34 + 2.00 = 5.34

b. 4.13 + 1.14 = 5.27
- 0.13 + 0.13
 4.00 + 1.27 = 5.27

c. 5.22 + 4.88 = 10.1
- 0.12  + 0.12
 5.10 + 4.09 = 10.1

d. 3.08 + 2.03 = 5.11
 + 0.03  -0.03
  3.11 + 2.00 = 5.11

e. 6.62 + 3.35 = 9.97
 + 0.35 - 0.35
  6.97 + 3.00 = 9.97

f. 2.08 + 1.84 = 3.92
 -0.08 +0.08
 2.00 + 1.92 = 3.92

g. 3.42 + 1.84 = 6.08
  -0.34 +0.34
 3.12 + 2.96 = 6.08

New Strategy

h. 5.37 + 4.04 = 9. 41
5. + 4. = 9.
.37 + .04 = 41

i. 8.72 - 4.12 = 4.60
8. - 4. - 4.
.72 - .12 = .60

j. 13.45 - 9.99 = 4.54
13. - 9. = 4.
45 - 99 = .54

k. 8.24 - 4.33 = 4.11
8. - 4. = 4.
.24 - .33 = .11

l. 7.22 - 5.78 = 2.56
7. - 5. = 2.
.22 - .78 = .56

m. 11.01 - 5.93 = 6.92
11. - 5. = 6.
.01 - .93 = .92

n. 6.44 - 2.77 = 4.33
6. - 2. = 4.
.44 - 77. = .33

o. 13.77 - 12.88 = 1.11
13. - 12. = 1.
.77 - .88 = 11

Task 2:

a. 7.63 - 1.77 = 6.14
b. 12.24 - 4.02 = 12.22
c. 16.74 - 5.88 = 11.14
d. 12.34 - 6.59 = 14.25
e. 7.76 - 1.12 = 5.64
f. 14.55 - 3.89 = 12.34
g. 7.03 - 2.99 = 5.96
h. 11.53 - 1.02 = 10.51
i. 6.34 - 2.58 = 4.24

Word Problems:

1. I put 7.63 litres of green dye in a container and 1.89 litres leaked out. How much dye is left? 5.74 litres
7.63 - 1.89 = 5.74

2. Green paint is made from mixing blue and yellow. I made 3.25 litres of green paint. To do this I used 1.22 litres of yellow. How much blue must I have used? 2.03 litres of blue paint.
3,25 - 1.22 = 2.03

3. Jorja has 13.12 metres of thread. She used 5.75 metres of thread. How much thread does she have left?. 12.63 metres left
13.12 - 5.75 = 12.63

4. I put 6.05 litres of water in a pot to boil. After it had boiled for a while I noticed there was only 5.89 litres of water left. How much water must have been evaporated? 1.84 litres
6.05 - 5.89 = 1.84

5. Our fish tank can hold 17.08 litres of water. There is 12.55 litres of water in it the moment. How much more water could we add? 5.53 litres
17.08 - 12.55 = 5.53

6. A chemical factory has a drum which contains 45.75 litres of chemicals. Unfortunately 3.05 litres have escaped. How many litres of chemicals that are left inside of the container? 42.70 litres
45.75 - 3.05 = 42.70

7. Rosa found a dress that she loved. it was $54.20. But it has been reduced by $9.99. How much does the dress cost now? $55.79
54.30 - 9.99 = 55.79
