Raeleen Sound: What can I hear?

Sound: What can I hear?

Team 5’s Inquiry focus this term is about Physics and the Science of ‘Sound’.

This week you are going to write an explanation about the different types of sounds that you can hear in your environment.

Think about the sounds that surround you - at home, at school, outside.

What types of sounds can you hear? Where do they come from? Use the table to help you organise your ideas:

Home
School
Outside
Other
What types of sounds can you hear?
e.g. phone ringing
People snoring because when they snore it is so loud and it sometimes wakes people up.
Brother sinning because he really can’t sing and even though he tries he still can’’t sing.
e.g. people talking
People Arguing because they might did something bad or just having problems with each other.
Whistle blowing
e.g. children laughing
Car starting because in the middle of the night they turn on their car and it squeaks and it wakes me up.
e.g. cars
Road Workers because they have these banging and clashing sounds and it is really loud and it sometimes disburse me when i’m doing my homework.
Which sounds do you like listening to? Why?
I like listening to the radio because I love music and I also like watching TV because some TV channels is funny and I love funny stuff.
I like listening to the teacher so I know what to do and also knowing what's going to happen next. I like going to assembly because sometimes we get to watch some video clip and getting awards.
I like listening to kids singing because they have really good voices and I also like the bird tweeting because it is a really peaceful sound.
I like listening to the birds tweeting because it is a nice sound for me to relax when I’ve been slightly angry and it is a really cool noise.
What sounds are annoying? Why?
People snoring because they might have a blocked up nostrils or they might not feel comfortable
People yelling and shouting at each other because they might did something wrong.
A car starting because some cars when it starts it has a squeaking noise and that is very annoying
Cars beeping and people yelling at each other when they are in a traffic jam.

Finally, think about what your world would be like if you didn’t have sound. What would it be like if you couldn’t hear a single thing, or if you had to live in absolute silence? What do you think it would be like?

I think living in a world with no noise or sound is boring because the world needs sound so other people knows what coming up on the news and with no sound how would people listen to music or watch TV to keep then entertained. If I have to live in a life with absolute silence I will hate my life because silence is boring loud is fun and without sound in the world how will people communicate with others, how would they know what coming up in the world. But I think no sound means no life because sound is in you and if sound is not around what’s left in you.
